FlashMob

So I get home the other day and my wife tells me she has something to show me on the old PVR.  Turns out it is Oprah.  Now I’m not an Oprah watcher so I’m a bit skeptical but she tells me its really cool and I would like it.  Not wanting to piss her off I give her the benefit of the doubt and have a look (I know, I’m smarter than I look).

Let me tell you this…IT IS AMAZING!  Seriously, watch this and tell me it isn’t cool.  Its a bit long but the last few minutes are how it was pulled off so its worth checking it out.

Now I didn’t put this on here just to show you something cool although I do do that on occasion.  I’m going to start plugging out 2nd Annual Fight Gone Bad Fundraiser.  We are still finalizing who we want to do it with (which charity will get the cash) but we should know by weeks end.

When we did this last year we barely had 100 members and only 50 participated / helped out.  We now have over 200 members.  Think FlashMob…now think about what I am going to term FlashWOD!  Wouldn’t it be wicked to see 120+ people go through this workout together?

Now of course we would have to do it in heats to allow for counters, space and equipment but I think we could easily pull off a MINIMUM of 120.  By the way, last year with 50 people we raised over $22, 000 and it was donated to the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton.  This year will go towards another local charity we just have to figure out which one.

I am stating publicly that we have a goal this year of $35, 000!  How sick will it be to get a giant cheque made up and have everyone show up and hand it over to a deserving LOCAL charity.  Gives me the warm and fuzzies for sure.

We’ll let you guys know the details as they get worked out so stay tuned and get ready to pester your friends and coworkers for money.  Its not as hard as you think it might be (the money thing…the workout is just gross) and if you’re skeptical about this talk to anyone that was there last year.  We had a great time and then we partied afterwards…what could be better.  Also, don’t forget about prizes!  We had tonnes of sweet giveaways and this year will be no different.

I was at the fundraiser last year and I will definatly be back for more this year! ( And will be donating more as well!) I think the Winnhouse would be a great charity as you mentioned at todays class Kim…….plus, I would like to say how great it is to be associated with an outfit like yours that gives back to the community :)

    Way to go SPARK!

  4. Graham Says:

I just missed it last year and from all the stories I’ve heard I can’t wait to be a part of it this year.

  5. Jonny Says:

Timmy, I like your idea. The Winnhouse gets my vote.

If it wasn’t for being a charity event I would be calling this one in…FGB is by far one of my least favorite wods.
But I’m drivin by two solid goals for this years charity: Double Slivs donations and go out to beat him by one small, measley, little rep….Merry Xmas in advance Sliv jk

Looking forward to the festivities after words too. Can you say Nor Cal Margaritas?

  6. Kim Says:

Won’t be a silent auction Kev…c’mon, do you really think we’re that organized???

It will definately be bigger and better though!

was there an auction last year? all i showed up for was the WOD. i thought that there was an after party and auction and stuff last year. doesnt matter it is going to be a good time. even if i am laid up and cant work out. i should be good to go by the time it rolls around though…

Looking forward to the event, really enjoyed it last year. I guess this year I have to raise the AMEC contribution solo though. It is a sick and disgusting workout and I look forward to beating last years reps by a significant amount.

Fight gone bad is one of those workouts that you hate, but love how you feel after (once you’ve recovered) I wouldn’t miss this for the world, especially since it is a chance to raise money for worthy local charities.

  10. Darcy S Says:

I wasn’t a member last year for the event, but now that I am I’m definitely looking forward to it. FGB is a pain but it’s awesome to give to charities!

  11. Charles Says:

    Kim,

As its for charity, I figure it would be a good idea to invite the other crossfit gyms out to the event. Not only would it help raise more money for charity, but it would be an opportunity for us sparkers to outshine the competition.

  12. Karrie Beck Says:

Kim, I think that FGB should be the last weekend of Nov. That’s my weekend off, if not then I’ll get the day off because as crazy as this sounds FGB actually sounds like a fun day!

  13. Morgan H Says:

I was there for the fundraiser last year, and had an amazing time, and was rediculously sore but it was worth the pain to help out the charity. i look forward to it this year and really hope i can help raise more than we did last year.
