I got this email from Shawn L. a little while ago. Ok, so I hounded him to write something because he has busted his ass and has had some pretty wicked results. He’s fairly quiet and would never call attention to himself so I thought I’d do it for him. Consider this a big high five!
Kim,
I’ve been meaning to write this for a while now and I finally sat down
and made some time.
Up until January of this year I would always find reasons…
excuses … for not getting into shape. “Too busy”, “the gym is
boring”, “I’m really not not out of shape”, etc. When I first started
coming to SPARK six months ago I honestly thought I was max 15 lbs
overweight. I still can’t believe how wrong I was. I’m 6′1″, and back
in January, on the first day at SPARK, I tipped the scales at 242
lbs. Well, six months later, I weighed in last night at 191 lbs. I’ve
lost over 50 lbs and weigh under 200 for the first time in probably 8
years. I feel fantastic and I have a ton more energy. I really have
grown in every way since I started. I need to thank you, Kam, Jonny,
and Sliver for helping to get me here. You operate a first class gym
with very knowledgeable instructors. I look forward to coming every
time.
I’ve also been looking into the zone diet and tracking how many blocks
of protein, carbs, and fat I have been eating. I was eating pretty
healthy since January but I wanted to be more aware of what I was
fueling my body with. Also, I figured to get to the next level “eating
pretty healthy” probably wasn’t going to cut it. Over the last week
I’ve started writing down and tracking everything I eat. If you have
time one day before or after a workout I’d like to take a look a my
log book with you and get your thoughts. I’m signed up for the
Nutrition Seminar next month which I’m looking forward too.
Thanks again Kim,
Shawn L.

Shawn,
Great work the past couple months. Watching you slim down, get stronger, and faster is inspiring not only to me but to others around the gym. There has been more then one occasion where someone has come up to me and said, “Wow…Shawn is making some big progress in here!”
If you didn’t know, I had the oppertunity to play ball hockey with Shawn this past summer and winter. Shawn has been the talk of the team with his new transformation and has gotten more then a few boys on the team to start thinking about their health.
Keep up the good work bud

Hi all,
I’m in California on vacation and did not want to get behind on workouts so have been running, did Cindy a couple of times and did 100 burpees today.
I have been wearing my Spark t shirt with pride…never beleived that I would buy into this.
Went to Brand X in Ramona and braged about Spark. Our gym is better than there’s (no Kim it doesn’t mean an increase in fee’s)
As someone said earlier this works…even for old guys…

Shawn,
You are true SPARK Machine! You maybe quite in nature but your actions speak loudly and everyone in the gym hears you. Keep up the awesome work Shawn, your hard work is contagious to all of us around you.

Nice work Shawn…
The Nutrition Seminar with Robb Wolf should be great. I missed signing up but from the research I’ve done Robb’s name keeps coming up as the man for this stuff. I’ve started to look into the Paleo and Zone diets as well (no dairy - yikes) and found some cool sites I thought I would share:
This is a nice overview of the Paleo diet:

This is a crossfit/Paleo blog with some good info as well:

Now I just need to commit to it. Caveman diet anyone?

Thanks for the comments guys. Dave, thanks for the links, great info.
I try to stick to the zone but no dairy is really hard. I probably still have a cup of skim milk and some plain yogurt everyday.
